Perfect Love Casts Out All Fear
The Apostle John wrote these words to the early church and for us today,
"And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him. In this our love is made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has to do with punishment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us." (1 John 4:16-19)
God’s love for the believer is so great that on the day of judgment before God we will have absolutely no fear! His perfect love will banish all sense of fear and torment. We will be able to stand naked before God, known as we really are, and yet have no fear of his judgment or condemnation. God’s love demonstrated to us through the death of his Son Jesus is greater than all the fears we could ever muster up. God's love will not fail! (1 Corinthians 13:8)
Christians will not only be able to stand before God without fear, we will be able to do so with boldness. The Greek word translated to boldness (or confidence) in our English Bibles means, “freedom in speaking, unreservedness in speech, openly, frankly, i.e without concealment, without ambiguity or circumlocution, without the use of figures and comparisons, free and fearless confidence, cheerful courage, boldness" (Strong's Number: 3954, parrhsiva)
